Following her mother's passing, Ollie was lovingly raised by her aunt, Ethel Mae Napier Rhodes and her uncle Robert "Bob" Rhodes. Uncle Bob built a community store with a barbecue stand for Ollie to run as a teenager. She also provided a valuable service to neighbors by charging a nickel to use the only telephone in the area. Her aunt Ethel worked at Hotel Texas for many years and later served as a maid to First Lady Jackie Kennedy and the President John F Kennedy. She served him on the day before President John F. Kennedy's assassination

Her personal Bible was always nearby as she watched Christian programs on TBN and DayStar. She faithfully observed Communion on the first Sunday of each month, using a book referenced by ordained ministers. Ollie was deeply involved in her community and church. She worked with Pinkston's Funeral Home taking pride in helping families during difficult times. She was a skilled homemaker, finding joy in quilting, baking homemade bread and making ice cream. Most importantly. she instilled strong Christian values in her children, ensuring they were baptized and attended Sunday School at New Hope Baptist Church. Later in life, she joined the Christian Learning Center, where she worshiped alongside dear friends. Though she was an only child, Ollie was surrounded by loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who became family. She was raised by a village of faith, education and love, and she carried that spirit throughout her life. Her unwavering love and wisdom shaped her family's legacy. As her children fondly remember, "No matter how tough life got, our Modea always made us feel safe and loved" Her guiding scripture was: Proverbs 22:6 (KJV). Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it" Ollie's love, faith and strength will forever live only in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
