It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Sanders Jr., who left us on March 1, 2026 at the age of 77. He was a dedicated and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Born on April 20, 1948 in Castleberry, Alabama, Richard Sanders Jr was the child of Richard Sanders Sr and Bessie Mae Sanders. He was a dedicated serviceman, retiring from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1988. His second career as a postal carrier led to many honored friendships. Throughout his life, Richard was known for being a supportive, encouraging presence in the lives of others. He was a devout Christian as a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, supporting his community through wise counsel, a listening ear, and a sharp mind. When he wasn't at church, or spending time with his wife Jackie, he could be found on the lake fishing.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jacqueline Sanders who went to be with the Lord just 21 days prior to his passing, as well as his parents Richard Sanders Sr. and wife Bessie Mae, his brothers Willie D., Clemmie L., James Z., and Edward C. Sanders.
Richard is survived and celebrated by his son, Richard Sanders III and wife Beth, his grandchildren Cierra and Richard IV, his sister Ola Ball, nieces Sherian Walker and Tracy Wilmer, and nephews Kenneth Sanders and Clemmie Sanders Jr., as well as numerous great nieces, nephews and friends.
