Bobby, as he was known to family and friends, was born on May 5, 1934, in Jacksonville, Texas. Graced with a quick wit and clever sense of humor, Bobby would often joke that for years as a child, he thought that Cinco de Mayo was a celebration of his birthday.
A graduate of Fort Worth’s Polytechnic High School, Bobby found work at Edison’s Jewelers. Before long, he was named vice-president in charge of operations for the company. He remained with Edison’s for 25 years. After Edison’s, Bobby owned and operated Eastgate Pawn in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before returning to Fort Worth and dealing in antiques at Bedford’s antique mall.
Bobby was also blessed with a large and generous heart. In April of 1955, he married the love of his life, Nancy Ann Toomer. Together they had two children: a daughter, Phyllis Ann (Malone), and a son, Christopher Phillip. He was also close to his sister-in-law, Donna (Tackett), and brother-in-law, Robert Toomer. He especially enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bobby Hughes is preceeded in death by his parents, Ada and Ernest Willie Hughes. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Ann. He is also survived by his daughter, Phillis Ann Malone, and her husband Les; his son, Christopher Phillip Hughes, and his wife, Karen. In addition, Bobby is survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
