Dallas—Dr. Mary Ruth Neal, 62, died on October 21, 2018 following a massive stroke. Ruth was born and raised in Fort Worth, and she was a college educator for most of her adult life. A person of great talent and intelligence, her dry wit and kind heart made her an integral part of the lives of those she knew. In addition to teaching, she dedicated her time and energy to helping others in need. She actively participated in the CASA program, mentoring a young woman named Alicia as well as others. She noticed that at her college there were many students who had aged out of the foster system but had no families to support or guide them. Ruth helped many of these students, providing them with clothes, books, food, and even a place to live. She was known as Grammie to these students and to their own young children. Two of the students, Tyrone and Gabrielle, wrote that “I will never be able to repay Grammie for what she did for me.”
Ruth’s fiery disposition, great passion, and tender heart were evident in every encounter with her. She was a good woman who loved her son Peter with all her heart. Despite being diagnosed in 2nd grade with Type 1 Diabetes, she lived a full and meaningful life serving others as she strove to be the hands of Jesus.
Ruth is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Stroman Munn. Ruth is survived by her son Peter Seefeldt, his wife Ashley, and her grandson Michael. Her companion of many years, Steve Knipe, brought joy and love into Ruth’s world and grieves her passing. She is also survived by her beloved father, Dr. G. L. Munn, Sr., and his wife Mary Ann Munn. Her three siblings also survive her: Carol Munn, Gene Munn and his wife Teresa, John Munn and his wife Richelle, five nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and many cousins all grieve the loss of Ruth.
While we are living in the pain of Ruth’s absence in our lives, we take comfort in knowing that she is now made whole and complete in the love of God in Heaven where she joins her mother.
