Shirley Jean Downing

Shirley Jean Downing, age 88, of Burleson, Texas passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025. She was born in Jim Fork, Arkansas, on October 18, 1937, and married Raymond Eugene "Gene" Downing on June 25, 1960. They shared a loving life together until his passing in 1994.

Shirley spent three years in Saudi Arabia while Gene worked for the Corps of Engineers before returning to Texas to settle in Briaroaks. She then enjoyed a fulfilling career as a secretary with Southland Royalty (later Burlington) for nearly 18 years.

She had a deep love for reading, drinking coffee, and indulging in her favorite sweets especially See's Candies and ice cream sandwiches. Above all, she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and her signature scent, Chanel No. 5.

She is survived by her brother, Billy, and sister, Pam; her three children - Brent; Bridget and her husband, Mark Jones; and Darby and her husband, Frank Ramirez; her six grandchildren - Rachel and her husband, Nick Gross; Amanda and her husband, Sterling Greback; Dillon, Bailey, Blake, and Lilly; and her great-granddaughter, Lana.

A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Laurel Land Funeral Home: 7100 Crowley Road Fort Worth, Texas 76134.
