Sylvester Martin was born on April 3, 1937 in Hills Prairie, Texas to Leroy Martin and Claretha Thompson. From the very beginning he loved being outdoors and being on the move. He attended Emile High School in Bastrop, Texas, where he met JoAnn Hill. They married on February 22, 1957. Before retiring, he worked for the W.A. Hudson family as groundskeeper and personal assistant.
His favorite pastimes were traveling, hunting with his greyhounds, barbecuing and listening to the blues.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Loydell, and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Martin, son, Connie Deary, and daughters, Yvonda Fletcher (Earl), Yolanda Quinton (Tony) and Telisha Dunn (Deitric); as well as sisters, Doris Ellis-Reyes (Tony) and Denise Daniels (Willie), and brother, Henry Peterson (Marilyn).
His grandchildren are Candice LeSane (Adrian), Brandi Deary, Darion Martin, Chasity Dunn, David-Alvin Quinton (Kelsha), Elise Dunn, Ermarie Quinton and Deitric Dunn, Jr. He also has six great-grandsons, Brandon Deary, Eric Deary, Devyn LeSane, Myles LeSane, Ayden LeSane, and Kailer Quinton.
Funeral services will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home at 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas, 76134, on Saturday, May 28th at 9:00 am. Visitation will be Friday, May 27th from 5-7:00 pm.
Burial services will be at Clearview Cemetery, 111 W. Clearview Cemetery Road, Bastrop, Texas, 78602 on Monday, May 30th at 12:00 noon. The repass will immediately follow at the Estell property adjacent to the cemetery.
