William Grover Marks was born November 17, 1934 in Wortham, Texas to William Grover Marks, Sr and Ruby Dena McNece Marks. He attended Wortham High School and then served in the US Army in Kaiserslaughtern, Germany. He worked as a Millwright Repairman at Texas Steel Company for 25 years before joining the maintenance department at Six Flags Over Texas, where he retired in 1999. He was very proud of the work he did on the restoration of the 1928 Silver Star Carousel.
Linda and Grover met in 1961 when Linda and a classmate were traveling from Fort Worth to Austin for a two-day trip to take the state nursing board exam. The girls had originally planned to make the four-hour trek to Austin with Linda's classmate's husband and return home the following day by bus. The classmate's husband asked his friend Grover to keep him company as they drove the two girls the four hours to Austin and then made the four-hour drive back home. Grover and Linda hit it off so much during the ride to Austin that when the group arrived to drop the two girls off for the exam, Grover piped up and volunteered to make a second trip to pick them back up the next day. Linda and Grover began dating shortly after that and were married March 2, 1962.
After retiring, they bought a weekend home in Kirvin that they called "The Farm." They became active in the First United Methodist Church of Wortham and enjoyed supporting the community activities. They always looked forward to the annual Fire Department Fish Fry. Grover worked in the garden and made many batches of his famous hot sauce. Friends and visitors never left without a jar of hot sauce, and the grandchildren would call ahead to request an extra jar.
