
Born on April 12, 1933 in Philadelphia, she was a champion swimmer and diver in her youth. She graduated from Germantown Friends School in 1950 and Wilmington College of Ohio in 1954. She married William Lester Butts on September 11, 1954 and they have three children.
She moved to Franklin, New York in 1966 with her family and was an active member of the community. She partnered with Mary Hilderbrand running a fabric store – The Shop in the Barn and with May Miller and Betty Roscoe in the quilting shop, Everything Else.
A member of the Onesiphori reading club and several bridge groups, Babs was a warm and caring friend. Throughout her children’s youth, she led many clubs and endeavors and was a generous and welcoming hostess. There was always room at her table and in her heart for anyone who needed it. She will be missed and fondly remembered by many.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bill, her children Ned Butts of Franklin, Sue Burton of New Tripoli, PA, and Tom Butts of Walden, NY; brothers Sam Baily of Newburyport, MA, and Nick Baily of Mountainside, NJ; and her grandchildren Corey Schmitz of Franklin, Nick Butts of Boston, MA, Sarah and Emma Burton of New Tripoli, PA and Calvin Butts of Walden, NY.
Details regarding a service celebrating her life will be announced later.
