

David was born on October 15, 1960. He was the son of John and Marjorie (Woodard) Harmon.
David was a 1978 graduate of Franklin Central School where he was the class valedictorian. He was a member of the Varsity Club, the National Honor Society, varsity football and baseball teams. He played trumpet in the high school band. He was a graduate of SUNY Oneonta with a BS Degree in Physics and also a graduate of SUNY Buffalo with a BS Degree in Civil Engineering.
He worked 19 years as a professional engineer in the consulting field. He then went to work as a professional engineer with NYS DEC Dam Safety in Albany.
David was a member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department for over 37 years. He joined after his father, who was also a volunteer fireman for the Franklin Fire Department, died in the line of duty at a fire in 1977.
David stepped up after his father died and took care of his family, especially his 3 nephews who were more like sons to him than nephews. David enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed camping at Kellystone Park and going on vacation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with his family. He was a very loving son, brother and uncle who would help anyone.
David is survived by his two sisters, Janet and Cheryl Harmon; 3 nephews who were like sons to him, Steven, Christopher and Matthew Dyke; his aunt and uncle, Joyce and Paul Worden, several cousins and his friends at NYS DEC Dam Safety.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Marjorie Harmon; his grandparents, Stanley and Edna Woodard and a special uncle, Robert Woodard.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main Street, Franklin with Rev. Tom Shimp, pastor of the Meredith Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the spring in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin.
Friends may call on Friday, December 26, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral at which time the family will be in attendance.
The family would like to thank his friends at NYS DEC Dam Safety for their many visits to Albany Medical Center and their support during this time. The family would also like to thank the Catskill Area Hospice and the doctors and nurses at Fox Hospital for all their support. He will be greatly missed.
