
He was born on June 30, 1922 in Franklin, the son John P. and Hazel (Greene) McKown. He married Norma P. McNeilly on September 19, 1942 in Franklin.
As a young man, Bud worked on his father’s farm in East Sidney. He joined the Army Corps of Engineers in 1957 and was the Head Dam Operator at the East Sidney Dam until his retirement in 1989.
Bud was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing golf, bowling and cards, and following his favorite sports teams the Yankees and the Giants. He also enjoyed attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. Bud also enjoyed camping and a member of the Holiday Ramblers and went with them to Alaska and Canada. He was a long time member of the Elks and Moose Lodges in Sidney, and past president of the Ouleout Valley Cemetery.
Bud is survived by his wife, Norma of Franklin; his sister, Sandra Lown of Williston, FL; his children, Linda (McKown) and Ted Cole of Franklin, Keith and Pat McKown of Binghamton; seven grandchildren, Kristen (Cole) and Mike Morrison of Sunrise, FL, Judson “Casey” and Heidi Cole of Phoenix, AZ, Jeremy and Julie McKown of Hoboken, NJ, JennieBeth McKown of Baltimore, MD LacieLyn (McKown) and Matt Holleran of Callicoon Center, NY, Keith and Kristie McKown of Binghamton, NY, Staceylee (McKown) and Stanley Podhayski of Binghamton; twelve great grandchildren Ethan Morrison, Riley and Jaden Cole, Hudson McKown, Conner Dotson, Jakob, Gracyn and Lukas Holleran, Isabella and Natalia McKown, and Marley and Kyra Podhayski.
Bud was predeceased by his brother, Donald C. “Doc” McKown of Sidney, a brother-in-law, Richard Lown of Dunellon, FL, and a sister-in-law, Ruth McKown.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin with the Rev. John Hill, pastor of the Franklin United Methodist Church, officiating.
