Joseph R. Kost

He was born on July 18, 1941 in Bay Shore the son of Joseph C. and Emma (Tanner) Kost. He married Joyce Petry on September 18, 1965.

Joe served in the US Army National Guard from 1962 - 1969.

He retired as a Design Engineer for Norden Systems in Melville.

Joe moved here in 1995 from Lindenhurst. He was a member of the Treadwell United Methodist Church, and while living in Lindenhurst he was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a former member of the Lindenhurst and North Lindenhurst Fire Department, where he served as a lieutenant,

After moving to Treadwell, he joined their fire department, and served as captain of the fire police. Up until 2007, he and his wife owned and operated Matthew’s Pond Bed and Breakfast in Treadwell.

Joe will always be remembered as a generous and hospitable person, and was always inviting friends to his home. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce A. Kost of Treadwell; his children Kurt (Dianna) Kost of Lindenhurst and Jennifer Puma, and her fiancé, Edgar Villasante of East Setauket; his five grandchildren, Kristina, Sabrina, Manny and Michael Kost, and Matthew Rucker; he is also survived by a brother, Thomas Kost of Bohemia and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 425 Main St., Franklin with the Rev. Lyle Linder, officiating. Burial will be in the Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 6 to 8 at which time the family will be in attendance.
