She was born on November 7, 1945 in Richmond, VA, the daughter of Robert and Frances (Moore) Neslund.
Affectionately known by family as Mama Llamas, Betty was passionately involved in the Susquehanna Valley Quilt Guild, Franklin Garden Club, Franklin Farmer’s Market, and Compressor Free Franklin.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed quilting, crafting, gardening, attending monthly soup suppers at the Episcopal Church, making maple syrup, traveling around the United States and Germany, and most recently making and donating facemasks during the COVID-19 pandemic and hand delivering them to area residents and health care facilities.
Betty was known for her creativity and her love for her family and friends. She was a fierce advocate for animals, children, and the environment. Betty was independent and passionate about life. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Joyce and her husband Patrick of Otego, NY, and Heidi Fischer-Gregory of Franklin, NY and her husband Paul Gregory of Sidney, NY; her brothers, Kenneth R. Neslund of Kingston, NY, and Richard E. Neslund and his wife Carol of Colorado; her grandchildren, Dylan & Derek Joyce, and Jacob & Abi Gregory; her niece, Jennifer (Neslund) Barnhardt and her husband James of Virginia and their sons Tyler and Dylan; her nephew, Derek Neslund and his wife Morgan of Colorado and their sons Barrett and Jackson; a very special Aunt, Elizabeth of Mechanicsville, Va; many close cousins; many close relatives of her late husband Hans; and her partner and companion of many years Larry Roseboom of Westford, NY.
She was predeceased by her husband, Johann “Hans” Fischer in 2012; and her son, Christopher Fischer in 2009.
A memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family.
