It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce Edward Schmakel, who peacefully departed this world on September 28, 2023 after a courageous battle with a long-standing illness. Bruce was the cherished son of Edward and Helen Schmakel.
Bruce's journey through life was marked by dedication and achievement. He was a graduate of Rogers High School and went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Finance. While at University of Toledo he was member of Phi Kappa Psi. His educational foundation laid the groundwork for a fulfilling career in the field of banking and credit, leading him and his family on an enriching journey through cities like Lansing, Cincinnati, and eventually settling in the Dayton area.
While Bruce was an accomplished professional, his true passion lay in his family and his hobbies. He found immense joy tinkering with cars and trains. Bruce was also a devoted family man who treasured every moment spent with his loved ones. Whether it was a simple family gathering or a retreat to his beloved cottage in Michigan, Bruce reveled in the warmth of family bonds.
Bruce leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be etched in the hearts of those he touched. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jane, and their three adoring daughters: Kelly (Jon) of Indianapolis, Krista (Brian) of Cincinnati, and Karrie (Daniel) of Morrow. Bruce's proud legacy extends to his six beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Ashleigh, Charlie, Garrett, Leighton, and Cooper, who will continue to carry forward his values and love.
Bruce's final resting place will be in the Toledo Memorial Cemetery, where he will find eternal peace alongside his parents, Edward and Helen.
