With deep love and profound sadness, the family of David Ronald Burkett announces his peaceful passing on January 22, 2026, surrounded by those who cherished him most. Born on May 31, 1950, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, David lived a life marked by unwavering faith, devotion to family, and a heart that never stopped giving.
David is survived by his beloved wife of more than 57 years, Donna Burkett, his high school sweetheart and the partner with whom he built a lifetime of memories, love, and adventure. Together they raised two children who were the pride of his life: Robin R. Partin and David Brian Burkett. Robin’s partner, Scott Boyer, held a special place in David’s heart and became part of the family he treasured so deeply.
David was a proud papaw to five grandchildren: Isabella, Titus, Jonas, Elinor, and Felix, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy. He attended softball games, soccer matches, dance recitals and school music programs, cheering his babies along the way. His stories, laughter, and gentle wisdom will forever echo in their lives.
He is also survived by his two older brothers, Jerry Burkett (married to Ruth Burkett) and Billy Ray Burkett (married to Peggy Burkett). Beyond immediate family, David leaves behind a loving and expansive circle of sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family, so numerous and cherished that they defy counting. Each one was touched in some way by his kindness, generosity, and steady presence.
David lived a life of service guided by his deep Christian faith. For 42 years, he served as a Baptist minister, sharing the gospel with humility and compassion. He was an active member of the Christian Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church, where he preached and sang. While at Franklin Freewill Baptist Church, David directed youth programs, preached, sang, and nurtured the spiritual growth of countless young people and families.
Outside of ministry, David’s work ethic was unmatched. He dedicated 30 years to General Motors and also served his community as a school bus driver for Carlisle Local Schools, greeting each student with patience and warmth. He also spent several years as a driver for Adesa, making friends and playing practical jokes along the way.
David loved exploring the world with Donna. Together they traveled widely, especially enjoying cruises and their visits to see their son in England and Germany. A proud graduate of Franklin High School’s Class of 1968, David married Donna on July 4 of that same year—a day that marked not only America’s independence but the beginning of their lifelong journey together.
He found joy in simple pleasures and active pastimes, including golfing, racquetball, baseball, boating on his pontoon boat and fishing. Whether traveling, playing sports, preaching, or spending time with his family, David lived with gratitude and quiet strength. He will be sorely missed.
As he took his final breath, David was surrounded by the family he loved so fiercely. His passing was gentle, and his loved ones take comfort in knowing that he has ascended into heaven, his faith fulfilled, his journey complete.
David’s legacy is one of love, faith, service, and steadfast dedication. Those who knew him will forever carry the imprint of his kindness and the example of his life well lived. He will be missed beyond measure.
A visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, located at 1357 E. 2nd St., Franklin, Ohio, 45005, on January 27, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at the same location on January 27, 2026, starting at 7:00 pm.
