David Scott Steward, 72, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on the morning of April 30th, 2026. He was born at Middletown Hospital on June 6th, 1953, to his parents Paul and Phylis (Bair) Steward. He graduated with the Franklin High School Class of 1971.
He married his wife, Pam (Harvey) Steward, on April 6th, 1974, and together they enjoyed 52 years of wonderful marriage. During their life together, they were blessed with four sons: Matthew, Andrew, Jonathan, and Benjamin Steward.
In his career, David worked multiple jobs. Early in his life, he worked at several lumber yards, including Gross Lumber Company and Halsey Meyer Lumber and Hardware, serving in various roles before moving into contracted sales. He later became a sales manager at Ohio Concrete Sawing and Drilling. In the years that followed, he worked as a day porter with AK Steel and eventually found his final position as a custodian with the Miamisburg School District. One of his most enjoyable jobs—though he didn’t work there long—was serving as an Operations Manager at Americana Amusement Park in the early 1990s.
David’s greatest passion, however, was ministry. He loved the Lord and felt called to ministry at a young age. In his youth, he attended the Franklin Church of God before his family began attending the House of Prayer in Franklin. He later became connected with World Missions for Christ Ministries, founded by James Dunn, where he assisted with Camp Meeting in Dayton and eventually became the worship leader. From this ministry, he received his ordination and founded his own church, World Missions for Christ Chapel, where he faithfully served as Senior Pastor for over 40 years.
He had a deep love for young people and a heart for bringing others to Christ. He believed in being busy for the Lord because “the time was short.” He ministered to many along Dayton Oxford Road and was known for meeting the needs of others, even if it meant giving someone his last dollar. He loved to feed people—if you came to his house, you were expected to come hungry. He loved to sing and play instruments, especially the drums and guitar. His proudest title was “Crapaw” to his grandchildren. He loved each one dearly and was determined that none of them would ever be in want. To sum up David’s life, it was this: to know Dave is to love Dave.
He is preceded in death by his father, Paul David Steward; his mother, Phylis Irene (Bair) Steward; his step mother, Virgie Marie (Collins) Steward; and two children lost in miscarriage.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Harvey) Steward; his sons Matthew (Amy) Steward, Andrew (Elizabeth) Steward, Jonathan (Cheyenne) Steward, and Benjamin (Katie) Steward; and his 12 grandchildren: Talen, Joshua, Sarah, Averyann, Ellie, Emily, Paislee, Abram, Landon, Quinn, Daisy, and one grandchild on the way. He also had numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. 2nd St., Franklin, OH, with Pastor Ray Phillip officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
