Eugene Dabkowski

Eugene John Dabkowski, 79, born in Pittsburgh PA on November 22, 1934, passed away peacefully in Mt. Pleasant, SC, amongst family, on January 1, 2014. Known affectionately as Papa for the past 20 years, Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and Catholic.

Gene grew up in Brookline, PA, graduating South Hills High School. He was a member of the US Marine Corps and a graduate of Grove City College where he was a member and president of the Epsilon Pi fraternity. It was here that he met the love of his life and future wife, Barbara. He went on to become a devoted employee of Armco Steel where he spent his entire working career and which led him to settle his family down in Middletown, OH. In retirement he moved to Daniel Island, SC.

Gene led a life full of experience and interaction, and he cherished every memory and friend he made along his way.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, and son Michael.

Left behind are his children, Mark Dabkowski, Lisa Hovanec, Kathy Jones, and Julie Gonzalez, their spouses; Laura, Mike, Greg, and John, 10 grandchildren; Michelle, Matthew, Kylie, Justin, Jim, Jacob, Emma, Huston, Lynnlee and Abbey, his two brothers; Don and John, and his sister Mary Ann.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the Breitenbach McCoy Leffler Funeral home on Saturday, January 4 from Noon to 1:00 PM. A family service will be held at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown, Ohio.
