

Helen Susannah "Susie" Estep, 82, passed away on 1/6/2026 at Bethany Lutheran Village in Washington Township, Ohio. She was born on September 3, 1943 in Fairmont, WV, the third child of Stephen Suddreth Mahaffey and Lucille May Bittle. She graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1960 and went on to attend Fairmont State College earning an associates degree in secretarial accounting. She worked at Prudential Insurance for two years before joining Monongahela Power Company in the position of accountant. Susie married Richard Estep on October 12, 1974 after only a three-week courtship. In 1975 she left her job to become a stay-at-home Mom awaiting the birth of her daughter, Christy. In 1978 Susie gave birth to her son Richard. She was a stay-at-home Mom for seven years, eventually returning to work as a secretary at the Baptist Temple in Fairmont, WV. She worked there until she obtained her final job at the FBI complex as a clerk. Susie retired from the FBI in 2014, eventually attaining the title of Legal Instruments Examiner. Susie loved to read, she loved the outdoors, she loved to go fishing, and she loved helping her husband care for their home and their ten acres of land. She loved all animals both wild and domestic. Susie is proceeded in death by her husband of 44 years, Richard Estep, her brother Donald Mahaffey, his spouse Doris Mahaffey, her brother Kenneth Mahaffey, sister Dorothy Conner, brothers in law Bill Connor, Bud Dow, Ron Butterworth, sister-in-law Janice Watts and her husband Royal Watts, nephew Douglas Butterworth, daughter-in-law Kristin Estep and dear friends Momma and Poppa Grottendieck. Helen is survived by her daughters Amy McBride, Christy Estep (Dan) of Wheeling, WV, son Richard Estep (Megan) of Middletown, Ohio, grandchildren Shayna Rasper (Paul), John M. Estep, Jessica Estep, Ke'Dynce Deaton, Bejan Modarressi, Shaheen Modarressi, Ariya Modarresi, and Sarah Modarressi, great-grandchildren AnnaBelle and Zoey and two special lifetime friends Carolyn Young and Amy Fleming both of Fairmont, WV. Susie was expecting and looking forward to the birth of another grandchild in July. Susie has chosen cremation as her disposition and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
