

Jack D. Barnes, age 83 of Middletown, died Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. He was born March 12, 1929 in Middletown, the son of Robert Barnes and Sarah Ritter Barnes. He served in the U.S Army Air Corps and was in the Berlin Air Lift. Jack was a police officer with the Middletown Police Department from 1952-1977, retiring as a detective. He was a member of the F.O.P., Elks Lodge #257, and the American Legion Post 218. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lillie Rouse Barnes; two daughters, Kristie Eckhardt of Middletown and Kimberly Ashley of Middletown; three granddaughters, Stacey Dan Curtis, Jennifer Nate Kidwell, and Holly John Eckhardt-Cooper; grandson, Shane Ashley; seven great grandchildren, Kayla, Abigail, Ashley, Joy, Cayden, Jason and Jack; and a sister, Betty Radel. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son and daughter; three sisters, Ruth Phibbs, Christine Detty, and Jane Howard; three brothers, Hal, William, and Robert Barnes; and a son-in-law, Thomas Eckhardt. Funeral services will be 6:00 PM Monday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4-6:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family at Woodside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties or P.A.W.S.
