

James F. Martin, loving husband, father, soldier, pilot, and patriot, passed away on December 23, 2025 at the age of 79. Born on January 25,1946 in Storm Lake, Iowa, Jim led a life marked by dedication to family and country.
A graduate of Marshall High School and the University of Missouri, Jim was commissioned a 2/LT in 1969 and entered active duty at Fort Benning GA. 1969-1970 were busy years with Jim completing Airborne training, Ranger school, basic/advanced Helicopter and Cobra training prior to his departure for Vietnam in 1971. He was assigned to B troop, 3/17 of the 1st Air Cav where he served with gallantry, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Purple Heart, and 11 Air Medals. After a stateside tour (72-75) at Ft. Carson, Jim requested release from active duty and joined the Air National Guard. In 1978 he was recalled to active duty as a Warrant Officer and was assigned to Korea. In 1980, Jim was assigned to Hunter AAF in Savannah where he married his wife Jeanne Kegl in 1984. During his tour in GA, Jim qualified as a fixed wing pilot. Following tours in Virginia, Germany, and Honduras, Jim retired as a CW4 in 1993 and was hired by Airborne Express (ABX) where he flew numerous aircraft, retiring in 2006 as a Captain on the DC-9.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Jeanne (Kegl nee Morrison) Martin, his brother Mike (Jane) Martin, nephew Billy Martin, two stepsons Ryan and T.J. Kegl, as well as grandchildren and numerous relatives and in-laws on the Martin/Morrison/Kegl family sides.
A memorial service/celebration of life will be held at 2 PM on 7 January 2026 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 40 N Main St, Springboro, OH 45066. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, please make any donation to Hospice or to St. Jude Children’s hospital in Jim’s name.
