Born on October 3, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio. She dedicated over twenty years of service to DP&L
as head of security.
Janet, affectionately known as nana, is survived by her husband of 45 years, John Sims; her
daughter, Angela O’Donnell (Groll); her grandchildren, Abigail O’Donnell and husband Colin
McCloskey; Daniel O’Donnell and wife Kaitlyn O’Donnell (Moore); and her cherished
great-granddaughter, Josephine McCloskey. She is also survived by her sister Carol Carnes
(Cowman) and brother-in-law Rudy Carnes, her sister-in-law and lifelong best friend, Carol
Cowman, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Vickie and Thomas McKinney and Daniel and
Teresa McIntosh.
Nana will be remembered for her contagious laugh, beautiful smile, overwhelming kindness, and
loving heart. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who
loved her.
A celebration of life cookout will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, rain or shine, at her home
starting at 11:30 am, eulogy at 12:00 pm, lunch, shared stories, laughter, and love to follow.
Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Nana’s remarkable life. Casual dress is
suggested, and we encourage guests to bring a favorite memory or photo to share.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Janet’s memory to the ALS
foundation, supporting continued research and awareness for ALS.
