Larry Dean Brubaker

Larry Dean Brubaker, born to Virginia Keiser and Larry Brubaker of Ashland, OH passed away Wednesday June 1, 2016, at the age of 63 in an automobile accident while traveling to Chantilly, VA. Larry was raised in Ashland until the family (6 brothers, 2 sisters and 2 parents) moved to Middletown in the mid-1960s. A pre-teenage school year in Anchorage, Alaska, living with his grandparents ignited his love for experiencing new places; his need to travel. A career course in Hotel Management allowed him to live and work the Mississippi river life on the Delta Queen and Mississippi Queen steamboats, French Quarter life in New Orleans while at the Royal Sonesta, tropical life on Sanibel Island, Midwest life in Indianapolis, and outdoor life at Glacier National Park in Montana where he managed one of the park’s hotels. Coming full circle, Larry returned to Ohio. Completing his hotel/hospitality career, he helped found and partner a local artistic venture called “Color By Hand” which now provides hand dyed and retail fabric for quilters and quilt artists from Australia to Japan and across the United States to Europe. Larry’s desire to travel, gregarious personality and color sense took “Color By Hand” to international shows in Houston and Chicago, national shows in Paducah, Des Moines, Atlanta, Phoenix and more. Hand dying fabric also allowed him to “work” winter months each year in Florida at smaller local shows; laughing at those up north. Larry’s love of travel took him to France, Holland, Scotland, Belgium, Ireland and even a month long small yacht Caribbean sailing trip. Finally, on June 1, 2016, travel just took him. Larry is survived by his parents, Virginia Keiser and Larry (wife, Anne) Brubaker; his siblings, Lori (Bill), Melanie, Jeff (Peggy), Brad (Monica), Jed (Janice), Rob and was preceded in death by his beloved brother Bret Brubaker. Services will be held Saturday June 11, 2016, at Breitenbach Anderson Funeral Home, 517 S. Sutphin, Middletown, Ohio. Visitation 3:00pm to 5:00pm with Celebration Service to follow.
