

JR was known for his love of Bluegrass music and could often be found singing and picking his guitar with friends. He was lighthearted with a keen sense of humor. He often told his "Hillbilly" jokes and would not let an opportunity pass without telling a funny story to make someone laugh.
He enjoyed traveling to flea markets on weekends and searching for antiques and special treasures. Often gifting these to his sisters, Jane and Ellen. Shortly after graduating from high school, he served in the United State Army for two years. He was employed with Buckeye Steel in Columbus, Ohio and retired after thirty-five years.
He was born on January 1, 1933, in Johnson County, KY and was the son of Loman and Lizzie Cantrell. JR was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Arthur, Bill, Arville, Ted and Hugh; sisters, Peggy Cantrell and Frances McKenzie; his wife, Helen and son, Phillip. He is survived by two loving sisters, Jane Stapleton and Ellen Cantrell; and a sister-in-law, Faye Cantrell. He leaves behind a large extended family which includes nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Pennyroyal Baptist Church, 3733 Pennyroyal Rd Franklin, OH with Pastor Josh Clifford officiating.
