
SHADLE, Phyllis Ann (Hammon), age 68, of Franklin, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at 10 Wilmington Place in Dayton, Ohio, from complications caused by brain cancer (glioblastoma).
Phyllis was born March 4, 1949, to Paul and Joan (Mossbarger) Hammon in Marion, Ohio, and was married in her hometown to the love of her life, Jay Homer Shadle, on November 24, 1972. Throughout her youth, she competed (and coached) as an accomplished swimmer and diver, ultimately serving as co-captain of her university’s women’s swim team and president of the synchronized swimming Swan Club. A graduate of Bowling Green State University (Ed., Physical Education) and Wright State University (MBA, Finance), Phyllis was recognized in 2016 by the Kettering Health Network for 35 years of service.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of more than 41 years, as well as by her parents and an infant brother, Paul Eugene. She is survived by her two sons, Jason Shadle of Chicago, Illinois, and Paul (Megan) Shadle of Dayton, Ohio; one grandchild, Corwin Jay; three sisters, Carol (Ron) Gist of Edison, Ohio, Patricia (Greg) Murphy of Marion, Ohio, and Martha (Tom) Pettit also of Marion; as well as many other loving family members and close friends.
A Memorial Service for Phyllis will be held on Saturday, August 26, at Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, OH. Friends may call between 2 and 4 p.m., with a brief celebration of life service to take place at 3:30. Light refreshments to follow in Anderson’s reception center. Those who wish to honor the memory of Phyllis are encouraged to contribute to a charitable organization of their choice.
