

Cheryl Mie Yoshitake-Adams was born August 2, 1954 at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. At six months old, she and her mother Tammy flew to Hokkaido, Japan to join her father Ty who was stationed there with the U.S. Army. The family moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1957. She was found profoundly deaf at the Washington University Hospital and soon entered the affiliated Central Institute for the Deaf where they put her in the oral communication program. She entered the St. Charles school system and returned to Hawaii in 1960 due to her father's transfer to Okinawa. She then entered the Royal School where she was a Spelling Bee champion, one year, and a Lanai Island Princess at the May Day pageant. She moved to California in 1967 and attended Burlingame Intermediate School and also Marina Jr. High School in San Francisco. She graduated from Serramonte High school in Pacifica, California in June 1973. All of her schooling was in the regular learning environment solely depending on lip reading. She passed the SAT and enrolled at California State University, Northridge. She graduated from CSUN in 1976 with a BS degree in Food Science. Throughout her education, she was an honor graduate at all levels. She then enrolled at the University of Arizona in Tucson, but instead choose to work at the Arizona School for the Deaf as a school mom and teachers assistant. Early 1997, she met Ed Adams her future husband and decided to enroll in an accelerated masters program at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She graduated in 1998 with a Masters in Education degree in Special Education, Deaf and Hard of Hearing. She taught for one year in the State of Oregon at Groner Elementary School and got engaged to Ed. She then moved to California, married Ed and started working at the California School for the Deaf in Fremont, California where she was employed until her passing. Services for Cheryl are under the direction Guerrero Mortuary, 407 Estudillo Avenue San Leandro CA 94557. Her service will be on Saturday at 1:00 PM with a visitation from 1:00-4:00 PM.
