Isidro or Eddie is the youngest of Pedro & Maria's 10 children. He will have been 67 in May. After college, Eddie decided to teach High School but he couldn’t because he was an AB graduate. He had to take 18 units of Education subjects to qualify him to teach. He continued his studies in 1970 while staying with his brothers who were working at the US Naval Base at the time. Isidro and Remedios had been College classmates in some Education subjects like Education, Psychology, and Test and Measurements. He used to teach her in Math, like square-rooting. Their love affair began there and lasted for two years. Remedios helped him to find a place to teach in their place and he was lucky enough. They got married in the year 1973. They had Mellany, their first born in 1974, Carlo, born in 1976, and PJ in 1984.
As a teacher he was loved by his co-teachers, parents and students for his kindness, generosity, and for being humble and simple. He was always remembered for his sweet smiles to everyone and the late Judge de la Llana, named him “The Smiling Councilor”
He served his barangay for four years and was elected as municipal councilor and served for 10 years. He served his town with full honesty and with dedication in his work. He was never corrupt. Family and relatives had been proud of him.
In church affiliations, he had been a Eucharistic minister, Knights of Columbus, Holy Society member, Family Life and Marriage Encounter (FLAME) couple member, and pre-marriage councilor couple in the Philippines. In the USA, he had been a Eucharistic minister, couple in Most Holy Trinity Church, San Jose, and in Couples for Christ.
Eddie was a sacrificing and patient father. He was also understanding to whatever problem the family had and was so simple a man. His children had to buy things for him, like clothing. He never gave negative comments rather he will say “I like it, thank you!” Wearing jewelry, he preferred to only use a wrist watch and ring, rather than wearing an extra bracelet and necklace.
He loves going out, dining out with the family, enjoys sightseeing and going to different places out of town, especially being with his two grandchildren, Carlin & Jolo.
He worked for almost 13 years. He retired at the early age of 62. In the morning before going to work, he used to walk around inside Great Mall as exercise. He also enjoyed strolling and going to the park in the afternoon with his grandchildren and with the dogs.
Early May, he was diagnosed of cancer – Lymphoma and took his chemo and finished his sixth cycle this October. He did never complain of his illness, even right up ‘til his death.
Life is short, make the most of it, cherish it, don’t waste it. Make it memorable.
