Jesus Pena Calso was born on December 25, 1941 in Gusing, Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur, Philippines to Aurelio and Raymunda Calso. He passed away on October 5, 2023, in Cathedral City, California, surrounded by his children. He is survived by his three children: Cheryll (married to David Keyser), Liza (married to Joseph Ortiz), and Jeffrey (partnered with Joseph Majenski). He is also survived by three remaining siblings: Teresita Calso Cozada, Herminigilda Calso Pascual, and Josephine Calso. He leaves behind five grandchildren whom he loved: Olivia, Jonathan, and Noah Keyser, and Carissa and Xavier Ortiz. Jesus left the Philippines at a young age to serve in the US Navy for 21 years; he became a plane mechanic and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. While enlisted, he also met his now late wife of 42 years, Leonida Calso. Together, they settled in San Jose, California, and strived to reach their ultimate goal of providing their children everything needed to obtain their college degrees. After retiring from the Navy, Jesus had various careers in the postal service, in real estate, and ultimately in the aviation industry. In his spare time, Jesus was an avid gardener; fresh fruits and vegetables were always available in his backyard. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of Peace Church in Santa Clara, California, as well as a member of the Santa Maria Ilocos Sur Association (SMISA). Jesus was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin and friend. He will be remembered as a man of family and of faith, and also as a jokester who referred to himself as a “Gin-gineer”. He often brought smiles and laughter to everyone around him, and will be dearly missed. May he rest in heavenly peace.
