Maggie Lee Harris

Maggie Lee Harris affectionately known as “Sista” was born on September 29, 1926 in Monroe, LA to the late George and Effie Jane Harris. Maggie’s early childhood was in Louisiana where she began her education. The family later moved to Portland, Oregon where she completed her high school education.

Soon afterward the family moved to Alameda and later to Oakland, CA. And at that point she started her own family. “Sista” had various jobs though out her life. Working in department stores, cleaning coaches for the rail road, and what ever she could find her hands to do to take care of her family.

Sista loved movies: Especially Cowboys & Lawrence Welk. Please do not call her or make any appointments between the hours of 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. She needed to be home for the Price is Right and all of the stories.

Sista has put some traveling miles on her scooter (Benz). She enjoyed going to Wal-Mart in Pleasanton where all of the greeters and checkers knew her. She has taken her scooter on two cruises and recently returned from a trip to Seattle, Washington. She was preparing for a trip to New York, but traveled to Heaven instead.

On Wednesday, October 15, 2008 God saw fit to call her home. Sista received her peace and joined her mother (Effie), father (George) brother (James) and daughter (Theresa) all of whom preceded her in death.

Sista leaves to cherish her memory: Three daughters Joann, Patsy & Ida all of Oakland, CA., One sister Doris Fort of San Leandro, CA., 15 Grandchildren: Annette, Charles, Carlton, Tanya, Vickie, Donetta, Charles (Squirrel ~ Mr. as she calls him), Rose, Xavier, Aletha, Patsy (PT), Thomas (Tom Tom), James (Sam), LaDonna and the baby of the bunch Rewquill (Potna), 23 Great-Grand Children, 2 Nieces: Effie & Gwen, 1 Nephew John aka Jr. Her memory will be cherished by the two people that she loved to tell stories about the past to Filmore and Brown and a host of cousins and friends.

Do not cry for my mother she is in heaven with her folks having a reunion. Check the fork out in her hand.
