Maria Domingo Esteban, was born on April 11, 1925 in Sinilian 1st Camiling Tarlac, Philippines. She was youngest of 7 children of Severina Domingo and Estanislao Esteban. Receiving her degree in the Philippines, Maria became a teacher at Matubog Elementary School in Camiling East. She taught 5th and 6th grade for over 30 years inspiring, influencing and educating over a thousand young minds over her teaching career. She retired from teaching at the age of 55.
Maria then moved to the United States in 1986 where she worked with the private airport security company responsible for San Jose International Airport. She moved her way up and became one the of supervisors for her terminal. Eventually, Maria retired from airport security and work all together. She continued to help at A&A Perucho Oriental Mart where she welcomed and greeted costumers. Like her sister Florencia before her, she was known as the sweet lady in the front. In the midst of all of this, she would also take care of family: some financially in the Philippines, others driving them to school or reading them a book, or cooking that fried-egg for breakfast with a nice burnt crisp edge. She enjoyed reading, especially Tagalog romance novels, watching TFC, playing solitaire and doing word searches. As she grew older, whenever asked “How are you doing?” she would respond, “Ok. I’m ok” and then smile and laugh.
On April 4th, Maria fell ill. She received the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick on April 8th being placed in God’s hands and entrusted to His care. On April 11th, Holy Saturday, Maria celebrated her 95th birthday. Her family saw and prayed with and for her that day. As we all slept that night, she entered eternal rest and awoke with our Lord on Easter Sunday, April 12th. She will always be known endearingly as “Auntie Mary” or “Grandma Mary” who was a 2nd mother and grandmother to many of us. We miss you grandma and we love you.
