

Remedios was born on December 18, 1919, in Manila, Philippines. She graduated from Maryknoll Normal College and received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1940. She married Juan Lopez Umali in 1943, and they lived together in San Pedro, Laguna, before relocating to the United States in 1980.
Remedios was passionate about education and instilled its importance not only in her children and grandchildren, but the community in which she lived. Following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother, Remedios became an elementary school teacher educating school children for 17 years. After she immigrated to Milpitas, California, she worked at Curtner Elementary School until her retirement in the early 1990s.
Remedios later moved to Patterson, California, where she became a devout member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She attended mass regularly and donated to various charities throughout her life.
Remedios is survived by eight children: Crysthia, Roque †, Ramon, Aris, Cory, Domingo, Rosendo, and John. She is survived by eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Remedios Umali was a vivacious, quick witted, and resilient woman much admired by those around her. She lived a life surrounded by family and friends, the strength of her faith, and unconditional love.
Wake services will be held at the Lima Family Fremont-Milpitas Mortuary.
Sunday, April 20 - 10am to 10pm. Mass will be held at 5 pm at Lima.
Monday, April 21 - 12pm to 10pm. Vigil will be held at 7 pm at Lima.
Tuesday, April 22 - 10am Mass at St. John Catholic Church in Milpitas with funeral services to follow
