Reynaldo Torres Toribio, known affectionately as Rey, Rene, Reynald, or Boy, depending on where you met him, was born on February 4, 1960, in Pasileng, Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines. Rey graduated from the University of Pangasinan, Philippines, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1981. Although he never made it his career, he excelled in all the jobs he worked in California, including positions at manufacturing and medical equipment companies such as Solectron/Flextronics, Dysan, Xidex, J&J, Cordis, NDC, and Confluent Medical Technologies. In 1991, he graduated from De Anza College with a certificate in Medical Assisting - EKG Technician. That same year, he was sworn in as a naturalized U.S. citizen—a happy and proud moment of achievement in his life.
He loved gardening and had a passion for propagating all kinds of orchids. It became more of an obsession. During harvest season, he would spend hours in the backyard admiring his fruit trees until he drifted off to sleep. He has touched many lives, especially through his kind heart and caring ways to family and friends. He loved watching world news, TV Patrol PI news, mystery movies, listening to music, and was an avid fan of Journey, Rod Stewart, and Filipino cover songs. He was into whatever sports were in season.
Rey treasured time spent with his family, most especially his grandson Jedidiah "Jedi". His warmth, humor, and caring personality left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Rey leaves behind his beloved wife Lorna, who was his college sweetheart and was married for 42 years, his daughters and their loving and supportive partners Melanie Rae (fiancé Christian Danao), Ryanne Lorraine ( BF John Huang), and Mariel Renee (BF Jared Chong), and grandson Jedi. He will be missed by sisters-in-law Helen Macaraeg, Lisa Jonsay, and Marilou Lacuzong, who lived close by and were a tremendous help without hesitation during his times of need. Lovingly remembered by his siblings, Vangie, Ella, Fe, Tess, Joseph, Cathy, and Baby. His memory lives on through all the jokes, laughter, joy, and love that have touched people’s hearts.
