Mr. Steve Woo was born on October 10, 1920 at Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China. He passed away on July 15, 2011, at San Jose, California. He was 91 years old. There were eight brothers and sisters in his family, and he was the third son. He was only able to receive four years of elementary school education, because of Japan's invasion of China. In order to help the family, he went to work in Shanghai. After Japan was defeated and surrendered, civil war started in China. In 1947, his supervisor wanted to relocate the factory out of Shanghai and brought Mr. Woo to Taiwan for research. Shortly after the move, mainland China was totally controlled by the Communist. Mr. Woo had no choice but to remain in Taiwan. He was separated from his family for forty years until he returned to visit his hometown in 1995.
Mr. Woo married Ms. Huang Chiu-Mei on 1949. Their family grew quickly and they were blessed to have four sons and three daughters: George, Steven, Juliana, Henry, Victoria, Gloria, and David. The family moved several times until he bought a five bed room house in Taipei, Taiwan.
He worked at CAT (China Air Transportation) for 19 Years. He began his career as a general laborer and was promoted to the supervisor of the painting department. Due to two different airplane accidents, the factory was forced to shut down. Mr. Woo then decided to start his own business, an automobile service shop, and soon expanded with a bigger shop. Because of the quick expansion, which caused a difficult cash flow situation, Mr. Woo closed both shops.
In 1972, Mr. Woo made the decision to start all over again in the United State of America. He then applied for his entire family to move from Taiwan to the USA. After immigrating to the U.S.A., he opened a Chinese food restaurant in Oakland, California. He later worked for Caterpillar as a technician. He also worked at Fox Precision Machinery factory until his retirement.
Mr. Woo was diagnosed with prostate cancer on 1992 and had a stroke in 1999. With a great effort at rehabilitation, he was able to drive his car in the San Francisco Bay area again. Unfortunately a second stroke hit him in 2005, seriously impairing his eyesight and hearing. In spite of the laser treatment for his prostate cancer, his health condition continued to worsen.
After his stroke, Mr. Woo was able to find Jesus Christ. He was baptized on July 25, 2002 at Fremont, California. Mr. Woo was able to find peace through his Heavenly Savior’s love. Mr. Woo realized that only with Jesus was he able to let go of his sins and start his relationship with Christ.
Despite the limited education he received, Mr. Woo was able to provide for his family. He is survived by his wife, all six of his children, thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He will always be fondly remembered by his family and friends.
