Betty Jean German

Betty was born on January 22, 1931 in Gilead Township, Branch County, Michigan, the daughter of Henry and Ona (Rubley) Merriman.

She graduated from Orland High School in 1949.

Betty Jean married Eugene “Gene” German, on July 31, 1953 at the Orland Congregational Church.

She loved her family and all of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Betty worked for Douglas Manufacturing in Bronson, Michigan, and later worked as the secretary and treasurer at Prairie Heights School Corporation and retired after 17 years of service.

She was formerly the President of the Orland American Legion Auxiliary, in 1959. She was a charter member of the Orland Chamber of Commerce, and also a charter member of the Orland Community Fund.

Survivors include her husband, Gene German of Orland, Indiana, three children, Greg German and wife (Tietje) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Mike German of Orland, Indiana, Polly German Norton and wife (Brooke) of Orland, Indiana, grandchildren, Sean (Brook) German, Weston German, Laraine (Jeoff) Jarocki, Gabrielle Norton, Owen Norton, Tracey (Trey) Whitley, and Grant German, and great-grandchildren, Lauren German, Alexis German, Damon German, Cybil German, Cyrus German, and Ari Jarocki.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ona Merriman, three sisters, Dorothy Merriman, Maxine Penix, and Louise Fair, and a brother, Donald “Bill” Merriman.

Calling hours will be held from 5 - 8 pm Friday, August 17, 2018 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana, and one hour of calling prior to the service from 1- 2 pm on Saturday.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Beams Funeral Home, with Pastor Tom Smith officiating.

Burial will follow the services at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Indiana.
