

James (Jim) Roy Cobbs, son of the late Ernest and Geraldine Cobbs, age 84, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Snow Lake on May 27, 2024. He was born in Wabash, Indiana on April 7th, 1940. Jim was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He married the love of his life, Kathleen (Katy) Dunn, on May 31st, 1957 at home in Lagro, IN. He spent much of his career at Navistar, Inc., lived a short time in Springfield, OH then retired to his lake home at Snow Lake in Fremont, Indiana.
His legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family will be remembered by all who knew him. Jim was a standout athlete in his youth, excelling in both basketball and softball at Lagro High School. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, the beach, and the lake. Back in the day, he and Kate were involved with square and round dancing with Tri River Squares. Jim was a collector, especially of beer cans, baseball cards, and Ball jars. Jim and Katy loved going to auctions to find those hidden treasures. Jim’s life was enriched by his deep love for his King Charles Spaniels, who were his constant companions and brought him immense joy.
Jim dedicated his life to his family. Jim and Katy‘s marriage, which spanned 67 beautiful years, was a testament to their unwavering love and commitment to each other. Together, they raised four wonderful children, who were the pride and joy of their lives. He leaves behind his beloved wife Kathleen (Dunn) Cobbs; his children, Allen (Janet) Cobbs, Dale (Doris) Cobbs, Cindy (George) Brown, and Gene (Julie) Cobbs; his 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one on the way, extended family, and numerous friends who will miss him dearly. He is survived by his siblings DeWain (Jeannie) Cobbs, Charles Cobbs, Pat (Dan) Stanley, Cathy (Jerry) Clayton. He was preceded in death by father Earnest, mother Geraldine, brother Joe, and 3 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 1pm at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Indiana. Visitation will precede the service from 11am until 1 pm. Rev. Jon Bruney of Zion Missionary Church will preside. Burial will follow the services at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. May he rest in eternal peace.
