John Wayne Crawford

He was born to Paul J. and Maggie A. (Hassett) Crawford.

He was a life long resident of Fremont, graduating from Fremont High School in 1959.

John was retired from Gambles Warehouse in Coldwater, Mich., and Steuben County Highway Department

He is survived by his wife, Bettye Crawford of Fremont, Ind.; one daughter, Kelly Gruner of Union City, Mich.; one son, Jeff Crawford of Mississippi; three granddaughters, Megan Alexander of Macon, Ga., and Keely Beemer and Morgan Gruner of Union City, Mich.

John was father to three stepchildren, Rick Steele and Donovan (Randy) Houser of Fremont, Ind., and Stephanie Houser of Angola, Ind.; five stepgrandchildren, Justin and Brett Steele of Fremont, Ind., Jonathan Watkins and Jericho VanAllen of Angola, Ind, and Ben Steele of Fremont, Ind..; three sisters, Betty Seifert of Auburn, Ind., Noreta Lahrman of Angola, Ind., and Judy Brown of Coldwater, Mich.; and two brothers, Jerry Crawford of Fremont, Ind., and Rod Crawford of Coldwater, Mich.

John is also survived by a multitude of friends. His ear was always available and his heart was always open.

John loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and watching his purple martins. His church was natures and God’s creation.

John’s love was boundless, remember him for his smile and gentle way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Dickie; and one stepson, Rodney Steele.

Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Beams Funeral Home in Fremont, Ind., with the Rev. Eric Piersimoni officiating.

Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana.
