

Ray was born on March 8, 1940 in Angola, Indiana, to the late Elvester “Al” and Ruth (Wells) Curtland.
He proudly served his Country during the Vietnam War in the US Navy from 1959 until 1969, as an engine mechanic, stationed at the US Naval Station in Annapolis, Maryland. Following his Military career, Ray was the owner and operator of Maryland Boating Center, in Chesapeake, Maryland, specializing in marine engine repair, for a number of years. He was also a longtime member of the Orland American Post # 423.
Ray was the owner and mechanic of Ray’s Services Unlimited, near Nevada Mills, working with his wife and step-son, Ryan, helping family, friends and anyone needing help since 1996, with auto repair and service work, treating everyone with great care, service and friendship. In recent years he had brought his step-son, Ryan in as the lead mechanic to keep the business running into the future years.
He married Karen Kay Kauffman on July 5, 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Curtland of Nevada Mills, Indiana, children, Ray “JR” Curtland, Jr. of Orland, Indiana, and Vicki Everage of Florida, step-children, Randy (Tracy) Kemerly of Wilkinson, Indiana, and Ryan Kauffman of Nevada Mills, Indiana, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, sisters, Irene (Leroy) Wisel, Louise Porter, Vera Delancey, and Lorraine Hoard, and sisters-in-law, Rosalie Curtland, and Sandy Austin.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Mooney, brothers, Floyd Curtland and Rick “Woody” Curtland, and a sister, Viola Friend.
Following his wishes there will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held at a later time.
