Born on November 7, 1941, in Wauseon, Ohio, Ron was one of nine children born to Elias and Katherine (Eicher) Frey. He graduated from Ridgeville High School in 1959 and went on to attend Reppert Auction School.
Before following his brothers and father in the family business, he managed a bowling alley. He spent some of his professional life at Frey & Sons, Yoder & Frey, and Yoder & Frey Auctioneers, before ultimately leaving to live near Clear Lake, Indiana, to build homes and work as a printing press operator.
On February 2, 1974, Ron married the love of his life, Faith Wyse. Together, they raised four children, Autumn, Amber, Serenity, and Luke, in a self-built log cabin home filled with love, laughter, and countless family gatherings. Ron and Faith recently celebrated their 50th anniversary, marking half a century of love and devotion to each other. Ron was a dedicated father who never missed a golf match, softball game, tennis match, dance recital, birthday party, family vacation, or the annual trip to Little Eden Camp. His children fondly remember him as a patient and supportive dad who encouraged them to pursue Jesus Christ in every aspect of their lives.
Ron’s greatest joy came from his family. He adored his 12 grandchildren and spent many happy hours laughing with them, playing with them, and praying over them. He loved to bowl and was an avid golfer who shot his last round just two days prior to his unexpected passing. He was also a passionate sports fan and devoted much of his fandom to The Ohio State Buckeyes. Above all, he loved Jesus. He believed in the wonderful power of prayer and dedicated much of his free time praying over his family, his friends, and even strangers.
Ron was also an active member of his church. He attended Fairview Missionary Church regularly and volunteered in various roles using his gifts of serving, encouragement, and generosity to further the Kingdom and point people to Christ. He served on countless mission trips helping with disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina. He generously gave his time, self, and money whenever possible, even if he didn’t have much. And on September 4, 1984, Ron began his life of sobriety which springboarded his lifelong ministry of helping recovering addicts find hope in Jesus Christ. His kindness, benevolence, and unwavering faith touched the lives of all who encountered him.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Faith; his children, Autumn (Matthew) Parrott, Amber (Jacob) Shipe, Serenity (Jacob) Simons, and Luke Frey; his grandchildren, Rebecka, Andrew, Rachel, Aaron, Michael, Micah, Levi, Gabriella, Asher, Nora, Joetta, and Quinn; his brothers Robert (Joyce) Frey and Roger “Butch” (Sharon) Frey; his sisters, Carol “Suz” (Clint) Wirick, Mary Wyse, Jane (Jim) Tomson, Sandra Stegman, Rebecca “Becki” Van Horn, and Patricia Frey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Katherine Frey, brothers-in-law, Stace Stegman and Ronnie VanHorn, and his nephew, Rod Frey.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday, June 1 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Fairview Missionary Church, 525 E 200 N, Angola, Indiana followed by a Funeral service in the church sanctuary at 11:00.
