Fr. Philip S. Haslinger, M.R.E., M-Div., 74, of Fremont, OH died Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born November 22, 1944 in Fremont, the son of Paul and Jane (Ochs) Haslinger. Fr. Philip was a graduate of St. Joseph High in Fremont, St. Mary College in Kentucky and Catholic Seminary of Indianapolis. Prior to his ordination he served as a Deacon at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Carmel, IN. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and was ordained May 27, 1972.
Fr. Philip was the Associate Pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church in West Lafayette and also served as the Director of Religious Education for the Diocese of Lafayette, Kokomo in 1973. He served as the Civilian Chaplain at Grissom Air Force Base, Bunker Hill, Director of Pastoral Care at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo and completed his Clinical Pastoral Education at Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis. Fr. Haslinger was Pastor of Our Lady of Grace, Noblesville; St. Mary, Alexandria; St. Charles Peru; All Saintes, Logansport and served as Associate Pastor at St. Alphonsus, Zionsville and St. Louis de Montfort, Fisher. In addition to his appointment to Dean of the Logansport deanery, he held positions as chaplain at Miami Correctional Facility, Bunker Hill and Logansport State Hospital. His final assignment was the Little Sisters of the Poor in Indianapolis.
He was an avid collector with an interest in Santa Claus memorabilia.
Surviving are his siblings: Jude (Rhonda) Haslinger of Hamilton, OH; George (Dianne) Haslinger of Maumee, OH and Marita (Patrick) Hickof Fremont, OH; nieces and nephews: Judy (Thomas) Shaffer, Jennifer Haslinger and Paul (Lori) Haslinger. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 3-7 P.M. at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, OH. A Mass of Resurrection will begin at 10:00A.M. on Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
