In 1953 Amelia came to Fresno with her husband Casimiro and their three children (Mary, Albert and Enedina) for a short-term visit with family. After two years they decided not to return to Texas and ended up establishing their home and growing their family here in Fresno. Amelia was a loving mother of nine children (6 girls and 3 boys) as well as a devoted wife for 52 years to the love of her life, her husband (Casimiro) until he went on to be with the Lord in 1998.
Amelia was an amazing mother and housewife. There were many times as a family that they would all go to work together in the fields to pick grapes. Every morning, Amelia would rise early to make her family homemade tortillas and the most delicious breakfast burritos. Many days she would make tortillas at least three times a day.
As her children grew up and got married, they continued to add to the “Quintero” family tree. Amelia was blessed with 29 grandchildren, and countless great and great-great grandchildren who held a special place in her heart.
Amelia loved spending time with her family making so many memories. One of her favorite things to do in the early years was to go fishing with her husband and children at the San Joaquin River and Lost Lake. Camping below Pine Flat Lake was her all-time favorite place to be with all her family and relatives, eating, laughing, swimming, fishing, and playing dominoes. Spending time with all of them brought her so much joy.
Amelia had a creative side, she loved making jewelry, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. She was also very artistic. She loved to color, paint, and draw. She enjoyed going to the casinos with her daughters to play bingo and the slot machines. She was “participant” of many family activities because she loved to be silly and have fun. One Christmas, she made a full ugly sweater outfit from head to toe.
Amelia was beautiful inside and out. She always showed everyone kindness and love. She had a big personality, a genuine heart and always welcomed everyone with open arms. Her laugh was infectious and exuberated joy and happiness. Everyone who met her immediately loved her and they became a part of her heart, a part of her family.
Amelia is preceded in death by her husband Casimiro Quintero, her sons Albert and Billy Quintero, her son in-law Rick Grijalva, her grandsons Christopher Cabrera and Angel Gregory Quintero and her daughters Irene Alvino and Esther Moreno. She is survived by her daughter Mary Aguirre and her husband Ruben, her daughter Enedina Arredondo and her husband Martin, her daughter Diane Olivas and her husband John, her daughter Betty Grijalva, her son Angel Quintero and his wife Martha.
Mama - Grandma Amelia brought so much joy to our family. Her smile, her laugh, her hugs, her advice, and her love for each of us will be missed more than words can express. However, we know that she is in Heaven in the presence of Jesus Christ, dancing her heart out, and reunited with all our loved ones. She’s our “angel” now, and we know that one day we will get to see her again.
WE LOVE YOU MAMA-GRANDMA ❤️
