Anthony Joseph Carvalho, the middle child and only son of Antonio “Tony” Carvalho and Jesuina “Jessie” Machado, was born on January 5, 1931 in Tranquillity, CA.
He was born and raised on the family farm in Tranquillity, where he lived his entire life until moving into Oakmont Assisted Living in Fresno three years ago.
He graduated from Tranquillity Union High School where he was active in band and the FFA Judging Team. During his high school years he worked one summer on the Christopher Ranch and at that time met a cute blonde named Ruth Christopher who instantly caught his eye. She became the love of his life and they married a few years later, four children soon followed: Michael, Julie, Diane, and Billy. They were happily married for 73 years.
He grew up on the family farm and learned the dairy business, as well as rotation crops from his father. In his later years his two sons joined him and his grandsons are still farming today.
He was involved in many clubs and organizations. These included: WSFC Board, TES Board, Lion’s Club, Chamber of Commerce (Fair Exhibit), TUHS Booster Club, and National Farmer’s Organization.
Anthony was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, his parents, his sisters; Maria, Inez, and Edwina, his son, Michael, granddaughters, Cindy and Stacy and son-in-law, Darrell.
He is survived by daughters Julie Wyrick and her husband Bob, Diane Miller, son Billy and his wife Paula. daughter-in-law Lillia, his grandchildren Rob Wyrick and his wife Suzanne, Becky Heart, Mac Carvalho, Elisha and her husband Scott Nakada, Cory Carvalho and his wife Brie, Matthew Carvalho and his wife Crista, Annie and her husband Keith Dungan and Aaron Miller and his wife Ashley. His many great-grandchildren includes James, Jolene, Christian, Mandie, Savannah, Matthew, Samantha, Joey, Josiah, Stacy, Ryan, Meryn, Zoe, Dylan, Cohen, Mia, Ava and great- great grandaughter Sophia.
On Tuesday, August 23rd, a viewing for family will be from 3:00-4:00 and for the public from 4:00-7:00 at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home 836 E. Nees Ave. in Fresno, CA. 93720
On Wednesday, August 24, Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 9:30 am, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 15437 W. Kearney Blvd., in Kerman. Burial will be directly after at St. Peter’s Cemetery 264 N. Blythe Ave., Fresno.
The family requests those wishing to express sympathy consider making a contribution to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Poverello House or the SPCA in lieu of flowers.
