Betty was an integral part of my childhood. She was younger than me so I 
got to play big sister. We shared warm summer evenings on front porches and Sunday picnics at Roeding Park. We spent time with Grandma Ray and Grandpa.  When we were at Grandma’s we shared a bed. Now Betty was little but she was fierce when she was asleep.  She wrestled the sheets, she stole the covers and she would kick you . Grandma wouldn’t share a bed with her.
She had a unique smile that would make you smile back. It was a lovely smile. We shared a trip to New Orleans with Grandma. Being in high school we didn’t see each other’s families as much. I came back to visit and be in her first wedding. Since then I would see her at a rare family event or at my sister’s. I will always remember her smile  and beautiful brown eyes.
