Mr. Daniel Cortez Hernandez

He was born on November 2, 1940, in Los Nietos, California to Manuel and Theresa Hernandez. He attended Pioneer High School in Los Nietos and graduated in 1958. He attended Rio Hondo College and graduated with an Associates Degree in Science. He entered the United States Air Force in 1963 and completed 34 years of service. During his military service he served as a Master Sergeant in Logistics. After retiring from the military he worked in the mailroom for Clovis Unified.

He married Ofelia Abarca, October 18, 1963 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Daniel loved life to the fullest traveling to his favorite places like Lake Tahoe, Cancun , Shaver Lake and Morro Bay. He loved spending time with his family and making many friends along the way. He also cherished watching his grandchildren play many sports such as: baseball, water polo, football, badminton, and soccer.

Dad touched many lives throughout his life. He had an ability to talk, listen, and carry on a conversation with such ease. Anywhere he went, he always struck up conversation, shared stories about his grandchildren, and left a lasting impression on everyone.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ofelia; 3 children and their spouses, Cindy & Eric, Sylvia & Brent, and Marc & Amelia as well as 5 grandchildren; Brianna, Christian, Kyle, Kennadi, and Degan. He was predeceased in death by 2 brothers Billy & Joseph. He is survived by his 2 loving sisters, Gloria & Becky, 1 brother Richard and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Daniel will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720 followed by a Recitation of the Holy Rosary Service at 6:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial Service will take place on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 929 Harvard Ave, Clovis, CA 93612 followed by a Committal and Military Service at Clovis Cemetery District, 305 N Villa Ave, Clovis, CA 93612.

Daniel Cortez Hernández, de 83 años, falleció pacíficamente el martes 2 de abril de 2024 en el Hospital Médico Fresno VA en Fresno, California.

Nació el 2 de noviembre de 1940 en Los Nietos, California, hijo de Manuel y Theresa Hernández. Asistió a la escuela secundaria Pioneer en Los Nietos y se graduó en 1958. Asistió a Rio Hondo College y se graduó con un Grado Asociado en Ciencias. Ingresó a la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos en 1963 y completó 34 años de servicio. Durante su servicio militar se desempeñó como Sargento Mayor en Logística. Después de retirarse del ejército, trabajó en la sala de correo del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Clovis.

Se casó con Ofelia Abarca el 18 de octubre de 1963 en Guadalajara, México.

Daniel amaba la vida al máximo viajando a sus lugares favoritos como Lake Tahoe, Cancún, Shaver Lake y Morro Bay. Le encantaba pasar tiempo con su familia y hacer muchos amigos en el camino. También le gustaba ver a sus nietos practicar muchos deportes como: béisbol, waterpolo, fútbol, bádminton y fútbol.

Papá tocó muchas vidas a lo largo de su vida. Tenía la capacidad de hablar, escuchar y mantener una conversación con tanta facilidad. Dondequiera que iba, siempre entablaba conversación, compartía historias sobre sus nietos y dejaba una impresión duradera en todos.

A Daniel le sobreviven su esposa de 61 años, Ofelia; 3 hijos y sus cónyuges, Cindy y Eric, Sylvia y Brent, y Marc y Amelia, así como 5 nietos; Brianna, Christian, Kyle, Kennadi y Degan. Fue precedido en la muerte por 2 hermanos, Billy y Joseph. Le sobreviven sus 2 queridas hermanas, Gloria y Becky, su hermano Richard y muchas sobrinas y sobrinos.

El martes 23 de abril de 2024, de 5:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m., se llevará a cabo un velorio para Daniel en la funeraria Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720, seguido de un rezo del Santo Rosario a las 6:00 p.m.

El miércoles 24 de abril de 2024 a partir de las 10:30 a.m. se llevará a cabo una Misa de Servicio de Entierro Cristiano en Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro, 929 Harvard Ave, Clovis, CA 93612, seguida de un Compromiso y Servicio Militar en el Distrito del Cementerio Clovis, 305 N Villa Ave, Clovis, CA 93612.
