Doris passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at the age of 95. Born January 20, 1927 in Lemoore California to Albert Frank Olivas and Jessie Margaret Olivas. Doris was baptized August 21, 1927 St. Brigid's Church, Hanford CA.
Doris graduated in 1945 from Lemoore Union High School where she was a member of the Home Economics Club and was the Secretary of the Sophomore class. Doris attended High School during World War II and saw several of her classmates leave school early to enlist in the service. Unfortunately, some did not return.
On March 2, 1953 Doris wed Carl Woodrow "Woody" Roberts at the now iconic Little Church of the West in Las Vegas. Doris had met Woody while they were both working for the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company in Hanford. Woody was a Lineman at the time and would make a point to go into the "Pac Bell" Business Office every other Friday afternoon to pick up his paycheck from Doris in person. After several months of this, Doris finally agreed to go on a date with Woody. They were married for 40 years before Woody's passing in 1993.
While growing up in Lemoore, Doris worked on the family farm alongside her seven siblings. She was the oldest of the sisters.
Doris worked as a Business Office Manager for the Pacific Telephone Company in the Hanford office, then later as a PBX Operator for Pacific Telephone Company in the Fresno office. After taking several years off to raise her family, Doris returned to work as a PBX Operator at Saint Agnes Hospital where she retired in 2010 with nearly 35 years of service at the age of 83. Doris considered her co-workers there as her "work-family". She enjoyed her work at all of these offices and made many long-lasting friendships.
She was known for her trays of enchiladas, strawberry or boysenberry cream cheese pies using berries from her garden, and knitting and crocheting many blankets and hats. Throughout the years we enjoyed many trips to Santa Cruz, Pismo, San Diego, Lake Tahoe and Reno with Doris.
Doris was an important person to us, as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. We admire her grace, courage, compassion, strength and support. We will remember her for these virtues and the values that she instilled in us. We are grateful for the time that we had with her.
Doris is survived by Son, Bruce Roberts and his Wife, Laurie, Grandson, Nicholas Roberts, Son, Gary Roberts, Sisters, Albertina Orsaba; Kathleen Sims, and Goddaughter, Ernestine Armi, as well as many Nieces and Nephews. Doris is preceded in death by her Husband, Woody Roberts, Brothers, Richard Olivas; Clarence Olivas; Ernest Olivas; Frank Olivas; and Sister, Loraine Quandt.
A visitation for Doris will be held Monday, April 18, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Stephens and Bean Funeral Chapel, 202 North Teilman, Fresno, CA 93706, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
