

Dorothy Williams, a wise and loving woman, died peacefully in her home on Saturday, May 7, 2016. She was born Dorothy Lorene Johnson to Joseph Oscar Johnson and Mary Ella Ingram Johnson in Childress, Texas on July 24, 1922. She was the youngest of 10 children. Her mother died when she was 10 months old. Dorothy lived with a succession of family members until moving to Santa Monica, CA, to live with her older sister. She graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1940. During World War II she worked in the office of an aircraft assembly plant. Dorothy met and fell in love with a young sailor, George Williams. They were married in Seattle on April 21, 1942. George was the love of her life and they were happily married for 33 years until his untimely death in 1975. George, Dorothy and growing family relocated from Flint, MI to Fresno in 1960. They were longtime members of Northwest Baptist Church.
Dorothy’s life was grounded in her love for her family and her love for Jesus. She was daily nourished by Bible study and time in prayer. As her faith deepened, Dorothy became a model for and an inspiration to family members and friends. Her wise counsel blessed many. At the time of her death, she was attending Breaking Free Revival Center, where she was known as “Mother Dorothy.”
Dorothy was never happier than when she was surrounded by her large family. She loved celebrations and she loved her home. She loved to visit and greatly appreciated the steady stream of friends and family who called and came to see her.
Dorothy lived a blessed and happy life. Her influence lives on in her immediate and extended family and in her many close friends. Dorothy is survived by her children: Gary Williams (Joan), Kitty Mumford (Marshall), Richard Williams (Jane), George Williams, Ted Williams, Martha Florez (Charles), and Andy Williams (Tasja). Dorothy is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at Lisle’s Funeral Home, 1605 L St., Fresno, on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00 am.
