Eva Carole Poytress was born on August 25, 1925, to Howard and Nettie Hamilton of Easton, CA. She was called home by her Lord and Savior on March 5, 2023, at the age of 97. Eva is preceded in death by her husband, Roderick Poytress; son, Randy Mason; brother, Harley “Bud” Hamilton; brother, Charles Hamilton; and sister, Clarabelle Schutz.
Eva always felt right at home in the kitchen. She spent many years as a kitchen cook at American Union Elementary School but spent most of her years as a homemaker and working in “Eva’s Kitchen” at the Easton Presbyterian Church. During that time, she also helped prepare lunch meals for the WUHS students who were involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Eva also loved to sing, and singing for the Lord was her favorite! She sang on Sundays with her church choir and spent many years with the Sweet Adelines singing alongside her sister, Clarabelle, and many great friends including Jim Turnmire, while competing in singing competitions all over.
Eva spent much of her time at her “home away from home” in Camp Sierra, just a few miles past Shaver Lake, where she and Rod owned a cabin for many years. Her friends, family and grandkids loved spending summer breaks and snowy winters there with the both of them. Eva was a Christian woman of faith and her love for the Lord was evident in everything she did. She touched many hearts during her time here on earth and although she will be greatly missed, we know she is rejoicing in heaven, and we will see her again one day.
Eva is survived by her sister, Helen Mayes; sons, Russell and Hal Poytress; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Remembrances can be made to the Easton Presbyterian Church “Kitchen Fund”..
