She was a graduate of Edison High school and later in her adulthood was an employee of the American Beauty pasta packaging company for several years. Tossie was awarded a medical assistant pin after completing training at Erma Duncan Polytechnical in 1994. In 1996 Tossie was awarded a certificate of completion in Behavior Management while employed at Arc Fresno and became an employee of the year in 1996 as a training supervisor. On March 8th, 1997 she earned a Certificate of Recognition in Medic First Aid.
Tossie liked watching detective dramas such as NCIS and Charlie Chan movies from the ’30s-’40s. Often, she would be found watching Hopalong Cassidy with her husband and with her neighbor friend Leslie. She enjoyed action flicks such as the Jason Bourne series, Jet Lee, Jackie Chan, Marvel films, and Star Wars. She loved reading the bible and listening to Kenneth Hagin CDs. She also enjoyed reading the Jack Reacher series and Janet Evanovich novels. Tossie spent several days crocheting adult-sized blankets and would make baby blankets as gifts to expecting parents. She loved tending to her flower garden. Whenever anyone was struggling with a dying plant, they would bring it to Tossie, and within the next few days, it would be green and healthy. Most of the holiday celebrations were hosted by Tossie; she was known for her popular potato salad and trays filled with an assortment of homemade Christmas cookies.
Tossie was the kind of person that made people feel comfortable to confide in. When anyone was in need or crisis, she did everything she could to help and she continued helping even in her later years. No matter how tired she was from battling kidney disease, she was there to offer her guidance and support. She meant a lot to many people. She was a special gift from God that was given to our family as an angel for a short period. Her infectious laughter will continue to echo in our hearts forever. She will be greatly missed.
