

George, who was a licensed pilot, enlisted in October 1943 as an Aviation Cadet in the United States Army Air Corps. His first of several overseas assignments was with a bomber unit in France. After WWlI, he was sent to Karlsruhe, Germany where he met a pretty young German lady named Ingeborg Hoelzer, who he married. After his discharge from the military, he moved his wife and young daughter to his farm in Illinois, where they soon had their second daughter. George then re-enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to military intelligence. He was stationed stateside and overseas in Giessen and Heidelberg, Germany. He retired from the United States Army on May 31, 1969. He returned to Alexandria, Va. and worked as a Security Officer for Sears before retiring a second time in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Ingrid, who lies at rest at the Riverside National Cemetery; his parents, Bessie and Roy Bright; and his younger brother, LeRoy Bright.
George is survived by his loving wife, Ingeborg, of 63 years; his daughter, Catherine McHarry; and his two granddaughters, Lisa and Jennifer McHarry.
A Graveside Service will be held at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 12:30 p.m.
