Mr. George Afarian Sheklian

He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 26, 1929, to Arsen and Maria Sheklian. He immigrated to Fresno in 1962.

George was the owner of Sierra Shoe Repair/Georgio & Sons. He loved to laugh and often you would find him joking with complete strangers. He said he had no customers because they were all his friends. He took extreme pride in his work ethic and even up to his untimely death would be at work daily.

The family would like to especially thank everyone at Fresno Community Regional Medical Center for caring for him. We have never seen such great care and empathy! To everyone who came and supported us in one way or another, which we would not be able to repay all the generosity that has poured over our family.

George is survived by his wife, Mabel Sheklian; his three children, Arsen Sheklian, Alex Sheklian Dyana Leon and Elizabeth Sheklian Watkins and her husband Christopher Watkins; granddaughter, Emma Henderson-Sheklian; nephews and their families, Lt. Col. Ret. Charles Marashian, Steven Marashian, Wayne Garabedian, Gus Garabedian, and Gene Garabedian; his large family of cousins, nephews and nieces in Argentina; and all his loving friends in the Fresno Community

Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Monday, December 15, 2014, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A Memorial Service will be held at New Harvest Church on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at 12:00 noon.
