On April 5, 2017 Gerdaldine Frances Mahackian was greeted at the pearly gates by St. Peter, embraced by her Lord, and ran into the loving arms of her husband Richard, daughter Kathy, and her son Ric. She passed peacefully at home in the presence of her daughter Susan, granddaughter Christine, and Grandson Ric. Gerry was the consummate caretaker; her sense of humor, appreciation of beauty, and concern for others made her the wife, mother, and friend who everyone sought.
Gerry was born March 10, 1935 in Fresno, California to Harold and Helene Johnson. She was raised and nurtured by her grandparents, Frank and Alice Henry, who instilled in her the gospel values that guided her life. She graduated from Roosevelt High school, where she met the man she called her "Prince Charming", Richard Mahackian. They were married December 18, 1955 and had three children, Ric, Kathy, and Susan.
Gerry loved flowers in her garden, bubbles in her bath, and colors on her feet. From the rainbow plaid Ferragamos to hot pink sketchers, Gerry walked her way into people's hearts. Once there, her sense of humor planted roots that sprouted fond memories. She had a sweet tooth and a sweet heart. She would travel five miles for the perfect treat, and 50 miles to treat another. Gerry was an active member of the Parents Club at Sacred Heart School. She was also Health Chairman both at Sacred Heart School and San Joaquin Memorial High School. She always had an open door policy for the San Joaquin Memorial Girl's Basketball teams and became the unofficial team mom for players by feeding them multiple meals and entertaining them with her antics which always ended with much laughter.
Gerry was preceded in death by her husband Richard; son Ric; and daughter Kathleen.
Gerry is survived by her daughters, Susan Mahackian and Mary Ann Yee; grandchildren Christine and Richard Mahackian III, Jonathan and Faith Yee; two great grandchildren, Mason and Nicholas Yee-Mendoza. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews throughout California. She is also survived by her spunky cat, Nani.
