We are saddened beyond words and it’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our father, Gilberto Martinez, on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Our father was born on December 11, 1936 to Rafael Martinez and Cayetana Carrillo in Bella Vista, Nayarit, Mexico. In 1972 he permanently relocated to the United States with our mother, in pursuit of a better life for their family.
Our father was lovingly known as “Vito” to his grandchildren. A dedicated father, he always protected and provided for his family. He had a big voice and a personality to match it. He was very friendly; had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and could have conversations with anyone. He also had a big heart and didn’t think twice in helping friends and family when they were in need. His work ethic was incredible and he was very proud to have been part of the Pelco family for 42 years.
The passing of our mother, his wife of 62 years, devasted him. They came into this world together and sadly they parted this world together. Our father was loved by many; may he rest in peace and eternal light with our mother.
Our father was preceded in death by our mother Raquel and is survived by children Gilberto Martinez and wife Mari Martinez, Mina Martinez, Ana Perez and husband Arturo Perez, Rafael Martinez and wife Edith Martinez, Alma Fournarakis and husband Nick Fournarakis, Gina Khristo and husband Marc Khristo, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brother Tomas Ornelas.
A memorial service in pending.
