Hector Marquez was born on August 24, 1977 and went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2025. Hector was the eighth child of Jose and Graciela Marquez. He is survived by his father, Jose Marquez and his siblings Jose (Arturo) Marquez, Noah Marquez, Irma Rios, Ofelia Marquez, Blanca Gallardo, Olga Topete, Velia Cervantes and Isela Bautista. Hector is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Hector was raised in Mendota, CA where he lived all of his childhood and some of his adult life. Hector attended the Mendota Apostolic Church and got baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. Hector was a blessing to the church with his gifts in music. He loved playing various instruments like the drums, guitar and accordion, which he learned at a young age. Hector not only had the gift of music, but he also loved to sing.
Unfortunately, on October 4th, 2006, Hector had a tragic ATV accident which almost caused him his life. Thank God for a praying mother who never stopped praying, Hector survived this accident losing most of his mobility that left him bedbound. Hector was a very smart man and he did not let his disability stop him. After some time and gaining a little of his movement back, he learned to move himself from the bed to his electric chair, but Hector didn’t stop there. You would see Hector driving around town in his chair. At one point, somehow, Hector managed to get on the Amtrak and road it to San Diego checking himself into a facility that would assist him with his disability. Hector didn’t let his disability stop his adventures, whether to San Diego or Tijuana, Mexico, he was going.
As the years passed, Hector’s health began to decline and he was in and out of the hospital, eventually being sent home with Hospice Care. On February 14, 2023, Hector was non-responsive, and the nurse who was present at that time, advised family to prepare as he was taking his last breath. The oxygen levels began to decline and the nurse offered to send Hector back to the hospital where he would pass. Hector was intubated for nearly a week before the doctors decided to remove him off of life support. During this time, the immediate family and church family had been praying, and by God’s grace and mercy, the Lord allowed him TWO and HALF more years. We are grateful for the time God allowed Hector to remain with us. Although we may no longer hear him singing or calling out our names from his bedroom, the memories will live with us forever.
